ART & CREATIVITY PROMOTES CREATIVE WRITING AMONGST ASPIRING AUTHORS YOUNG AND OLD WITH BOOK WRITING CONTEST AT ANNUAL BOOK AND BOOK WRITING CONVENTION IN PRETORIA

Art and Creative is proud to be running a writing competition for all aspiring and self-published authors to stand a chance of winning a full publishing contract to the value of R24k or a marketing contract to the value of R12k or an editing contract to the value of R8k.

COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. By entering this competition, you accept and agree to the following terms and conditions
which will govern the competition. Furthermore, you verify that you are unaware of any
reason legally prohibiting you from entering this competition and, if the competition
requires the submission of photographs, artwork or images of people, or of anything else
that requires consent or copyright, that you have the necessary consent and authority to
do so, if required. Any entrant who contravenes these rules may be disqualified from the
competition. The rules can only be modified by the Promoters in a written revision posted
on the competition Facebook page or any other official competition communication
methods.
2. This is a digitally run competition. Only entries received online via the Promoter's official
email address or website will be accepted.
3. The Promoters of this competition are Art and Creativity

4. You may only enter this competition if you are a resident of South
Africa, aged 12 or older and reside in the Johannesburg/Pretoria Region, if not, please ensure you will be able to attend the Prize Giving to be held in Pretoria on the 18th September 2022 at Riverside Castle, Plot 204 Graham Road, Zwavelpoort or via live streaming to the event. The winner will be
required to present a valid ID document in order to accept the prize. It is
the winner’s responsibility to accept the prize at Riverside Castle in Zwavelpoort or other avenues provided by Art and Creativity.
5. The competition will run from 1 May 2022 until 30th June for entry applications and manuscript submissions must be submitted by no later than 31st July 16h00. Late or
incomplete entries will not be accepted. No responsibility will be accepted for entries
lost, delayed or damaged in transmission. Entries reflected on the Promoter’s records will
be treated as the only validation source and will be the only evidence of successful entries.
6. To enter the competition: You need to write a short story of 5000 to 8000 words in one of five genres, Fantasy/Supernatural, Murder Mystery, Romance, Horror or Children’s Adventure. Entrance fee is R 50.00 for children aged 12 to 17 years and R 100.00 for adults.

7. There will be three winners in each category who will each receive:

1st Place: Full Publishing Contract valued at R 24000.00 which includes, editing, book cover design, illustrations, formatting, marketing, printing, publishing and distribution both local and international.

2nd Place: Marketing contract valued at R 12000.00 which includes publishing and distribution both local and international.

3rd Place: Editing Contract valued at R8000.00 which includes editing, formatting and book cover design.

8. The prize is neither negotiable nor transferable, and may not be exchanged for cash.

9. The prize may be subject to additional terms and conditions not mentioned hereunder,
but in accordance with relevant South African legislation. The Promoters reserve the right

to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the original prize becomes unavailable for
any unforeseen reason.
10. The stories submitted will be subject to approval for the shortlisting of 25 applicants who will be judged by renowned South African Authors at the Book and Book Writing Convention on 18th September 2022.

11. By entering this competition, the entrant consents that the Promoter may use names and
images taken of the winners for publicity purposes, without any further remuneration
being payable to the winner. The winner may decline to participate in any promotional
activity by notifying the Promoter in writing. All promotional material will become the
sole property of the Promoter.
12. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
13. You may not enter the competition if you are a director, member, partner, employee,
tenant (or employee of a tenant), agent, consultant or supplier to the Promoters, or their
respective spouses, partners, family members (parents, siblings and children), business
partners or associates.
14. Participants in this competition hereby indemnify, release and hold harmless the
Promoters and their successors, employees, officers, suppliers, contractors, agents,
consultants, directors and shareholders from and against any losses, claims, proceedings,
actions, damages, liability for harm, injury or death, demands, expenses or any costs
howsoever arising out of their participation in this competition or their use of the prizes,
and/or any person with whom they share that prize.
15. The laws of the Republic of South Africa govern this competition..
16. Participants understand and agree that in order to offer the competition, the Promoter
must collect and use personal information about participants.
17. The Promoters reserve the right to cancel, modify or amend the competition at any time
if deemed necessary in their own opinion or if circumstances arise outside of their control.

18. Application Forms must be accompanied by a Proof of Payment of the entry fee and will not be considered for entry should this not be paid.

19. Application forms to be completed and signed by consenting adult for applicants under 18 years and copy of consenting adult’s ID to be attached.

20. Please ensure all three pages are initialed.

Kindly note that all participants who are not selected for the prize giving and do not win a prize, still walk away with a free workshop ticket whereby your submissions will be edited, designed, published and distributed should you so wish. The workshop is valued at R750.00.

Stories can be anything of your choice, provided they fall within one of the five genres specified in the competition rules. The 5000 to 8000 word short story must have an introduction, body and epilogue and cannot have a continuation, i.e. the story must have an ending.
